The accepted eleven applicants for the University of Texas in Arlington REU summer program were given a

welcome speech by Dr. Nur Yazdani of Civil Engineering, and the other heads participating in the programs.

The eleven applicants were of five categories offered by the university. Project A, showed basically how

earthquakes and soil movements affects daily life and is over seen by Dr. Anand Puppa of Civil engineering.

Then there was Project B, which is being overseen by Dr. Melanie Sattler and Dr. Yvette Weatherton of Civil

Engineering. This project is about the possible planning for airborne terrorism (bombs) that could target

populated areas. Project C is the Extreme wind loads on structures or how sustainable man-made structures

can stand against natural and manmade disasters, directed by Dr. Nur Yazdani. Project D was how one

could improve the evaluation of detecting hackers or how to detect hackers, overseen by Dr. Matt Wright.

final project is the Power grid failure, directed by Dr. Wei-Jen Lee.

The REU Program entails:

• Overall assessments
